Top 5 Job Interview Tips
Conventional wisdom will tell you that job searches and job interviews for truck driving jobs are very difficult. Some truckers
believe job interviews are always stressful even when they have been on more interviews than you care to remember, right?
Wrong!
I would agree that a job search interview can be stressful, but the truth is that any perspective CDL truck driving job candidate who is
prepared can leverage positive stress into an effective job interview.
During an initial interview for a truck driving job you have one objective and one objective only, to make the best first impression so you're
discussing a second interview with the hiring manager before your first interview ends.
In this artice, we wil share with you the top 5 job interview secrets that most job applicants never even think about during the hiring
process.
1. In many cases, the initial interviewer is usually not the hiring manager but can be an extremely valuable asset to you so
treat them as if they were the hiring manager. In the challenging business climate we live in today, hiring managers, just like everyone else,
are forced to do more with less. In most lage companies, you will be interviewed by several individuals.
It is the primary responsibility of the initial interviewer to set up an interview schedule that coordinates several people's schedules. This
is done so candidates can be interview by as many people as time permits during a second interview. The initial interviewer's goal is to put
the best qualified and pre screened truck driving jobs candidates in front of key decisions makers as quickly as humanly possible. Their
reputation in on the line as well, so if were in thier position what would you do? You would pick the best candidates that have the least amount
of risk of making you look bad in your job!
Bottom line: Assure the initial interviewer on multiple occasions that you are well qualified, reliable, enthusiastic and
possess strong morals and values.
2. A dream job offer is usually due an individual's distinctive qualities such as preparation and perseverance. Research
the perspective company to determine if the organizations culture meets yours. If it is a public company, you can find out the ten year history
fo earnings and profits. Print it off and write your questions on the back of the page. Go to Google, type in the company's website and hit the
search button. Familiarize yourself with the company's "happenings".
Specifically, look for the press page where you can view recent articles to get an idea of latest company "happenings" in the news. Bring the
press clippings to the interview. Be prepared to ask several questions about the company. This shows you are a serious contender.
Bottom line: The more research a perspective hiring manager can see that you have done, the higher the probability you have
of gettting that dream job offer.
3. Come prepared with a (well organied) portfolio of job history, accomplishments and achievements during the interview. This
is without a doubt the most critical part of the preparation process. Why? Because it will definitely separate you form the pretenders. I have
personally interviewed hundreds of candidates for different postions over a long carrer in multiple industries, and I can count on one hand the
number of times I felt the candidate was professionally prepared to convince me why we should take the risk to hire them. What do you think an
artist presents at a job interview? Hellooooo, is anyone listening?????
Bottom line: Prepare yourself to present your work history as if you were auditioning for a part in a movie.
Practice..Practice..Practice.
4. If you have captured the interviewer's interest in you personally, the probability is high for a second interview. There
are certain things that hiring managers look for in job search candidates. Passion is probably number one on my list. I want to see that you are
passionate about life and your career.
Humility is also very important. Nothing turns a interviewer off more quickly than someone who presents his/her portfoilio in terms of "I"
accomplishements. When describing your accomplishements, always speak in "we" terminology. I was able to achieve the level of success only
because I surrounded myself with people a lot smarter than me! Another good thought process in starting sentences is the accomplishements of "my"
team.
Bottom Line: No one person is successful. An orchestra conductor gets the most from the orchestra.
5. Never be the first person during the interview to bring up compensation during an job interview. Conventional wisdom says
that interviewers expect a candidate for employment to be able to provide the details of their compensation history and be prepared to tell the
interviewer how much you earned at each of your prior positions.
Boulderdash! I would agree that your should be prepared, however, I can also tell you that if your presentation is compelling enough to get
you to a second interview and eventually a job offer, the last thing a perspective boss wants to hear is that the company's offer was too low to
attract you. Your primary objective throughout the interview process is to thoroughly convince them that it would be a huge mistake on their part
to not make an aggressive run at you with a compensation package beyond your expectations, without ever saying those words! Remember, perception
is 90% of reality and if they perceive that some other company will hire you if they don't, they will make you a strong job offer.
Bottom Line: If you are confident with adequate skill sets and make a profesisonal presentation, you will be ahead of 99% of
the competition (other candidates).
